//Tammy and Jack have known each other since childhood, but had lost touch since they both left home for college. They both have fall break right now and decided to meet up.// Tammy, legs crossed, is sipping a glass of water while Jack seems to be ignoring his cup of coffee. His posture is slouched and his expression is grim. She notices this, and wonders what she should do. [[Ask what is wrong]] [[Stay quiet]]Jack's head shoots up and he stares at Tammy. He doesn't remember her being this perceptive before. Still, he's grateful. It takes a moment, but he finally reveals to Tammy that, "School has been pretty difficult. The work is hard, and the teachers are not very sympathetic. I just feel... alone, you know?" He looks down at his hands. Tammy knows that the ball is in her court. [["I'm sorry, and I understand what you're going through."]] [["Listen, it feels awful now, but I'm sure that it will get better."]] Tammy keeps drinking her coffee. Jack thinks it's kind of excessive but he doesn't say anything. He's too busy worrying. Eventually, he feels like he needs to share with Tammy what's wrong. [["Tammy, can I tell you something?"]] [["My life is horrible. My teachers are awful! They keep giving us tests! My grade is down the toilet. Life is AWFUL!"]]Tammy sets down her cup of coffee and gives Jack her undivided attention. She thinks this is pretty heavy for the first topic of conversation, but she's willing to listen. The destraught student laments, "My life is horrible. My teachers are awful! They keep giving us tests! My grade is down the toilet. Life is AWFUL!" [[Interrupt]] [[Sympathize]] Tammy is unsure what to do. She's a bit annoyed, but she keeps quiet and waits for Jack to give her some sort of sign that he's finished. Jack evidently has nothing more to say. He sits, waiting for Tammy's reaction. [["Sounds like you're having good time."]] [["Sucks to be you."]] "Stop complaining you big baby. My classes are awful too, but you don't hear me complaining. So, shut up!" Jack stares at her. As the anger leaves her, Tammy feels regret at what she said. Jack glares down at the table. "Fine, if that's how you feel," he mutters as he stands up. "We shouldn't meet up again. Quite frankly, you give me a headache." He leaves. Tammy angrily finishes her coffee. When she realizes that Jack didn't pay for his water she is even more infuriated with him. After she pays, she storms out and curses Jack under her breath. Later, both will complain to their college friends about each other. Jack and Tammy continue talking, and Tammy successfully raises Jack's spirits. In the end they leave with a parting joke about Tammy's name and the popular movies in the 50s and 60s.Jack looks confused. Tammy is giving him no nonverbal cues about how he is supposed to interpret that statement. He's left feeling like the distance between has just widened. This is a seriousy issue, and Jack is unsure how Tammy is treating it. "Listen, Tammy, I've gotta go walk my dog." Tammy continues to drink her coffee, and watches indifferently as Jack leaves. Good riddance, she thinks. He'd become a pretty rude person in her opinion. Tammy voices her annoyance. Jack is very surprised, and quickly grows angry and defensive. "No, it must suck to be someone as mean and insensitive as you!" Tammy felt her annoyance grow and anger build. She abruptly stands up, and Jack does the same. The two of them part ways.Jack gives her a smile. They continue to chat and decide to meet up again the next time they are on break. Jack sighs. He looks away, and doesn't say anything else. Tammy feels awkward. They spend the rest of the meeting in silence. Jack is too preoccupied with his troubles and Tammy is trying to figure out what just happened. They eventually part ways without arranging another meeting.
